Time to say goodbye

Aloha, Adios, Tsamaya sentle, বিদায় নিচ্ছি।
There are many ways to say it. And sometimes its all there is to say.
Thanks for reading our blog, but its time for us to go. (I'm not saying we are moving on to bigger better things, but we are) :)

To Be Or Not To Be: Sweater Vests

Noooo
YESSS. (photos from flicker)

Its my favorite time of the year!! Yes people, Winter is here and its time to put UP the sweater vests. I mean unless your an old man or live in Europe, sweater vests should not be worn. At all. Or as Urban Dictionary would put it, sweater vests are “an article of clothing often worn by ‘ridiculously’ good looking teachers that make them somehow even better looking” or “ A person who behaves like an a**; a person that is inconsiderate or in-polite.“ So unless you are inconsiderate or an attractive teacher, you should give up, and leave the sweater vests for your grandpa. I’m sorry if I offended anyone, its just my job :P

Winter Already?

With the weather still cooling down even more boots may be the only thing to keep your feet warm and cozy in the winter. Here are some of the best types.

-Soph

Ugg's, a classic plain boot goes with most EVERYTHING
with a wonderfully warm lining.
(photo from flickr)
While Uggs are great, they are a little out of the reasonable
price range, so getting off brand boots is a great alternative!
Knit boots (some of my favorite) are also a cute but different
option to the classic ugg

A TOTALLY different option is this tribal styled boot
with patterns and a faux fur look.

Living in Texas, in the few weeks it does actually get cold
a great way to stay in the Texan spirit is with a old fashioned
cow boy boot! (photo from flickr)

Nuts and Leads

John Walden isnt your ordarnary teenager. You can tell by looking at his room. Classical music CD's on an endless shelf and dusty textbooks in the corner.
At the age of 16 John has not reached his full capacity. He has gotten many honor awards and has been reconized across the country for his trumpet playing and paino compisitions. For him it doesnt end there.

Leads and Nutgraph

The croud cheers as he takes the stage. After a few kind words he breaks out in an awesome guitar solo, joined by a violinest. This man is Paul Finley, who makes his career in music. -Haley

Feature Story Lead and Nutgraph

Guitarists strumming blissfully and drumsticks being tapped on any available surface, kids of all ages enthusiastically showing of their abilities and talking about some band or performance. Walking into the School of Rock the energy is eccentric and the promise of its talented students can be tasted in the air. People walk in and out of the doors and call kids back into the building for their lessons. With everything going on, its hard to tell one teacher from another. Yet, one person really stands out.

Rick Carney, current music director at the School of Rock, has a vibrant past and contagious enthusiasm about teaching his students everything they need to know about becoming a musician.

Kickin’ it Vintage

A great example of Vintage around Austin is Buffalo Exchange. Buffalo is a combination of vintage and thrift. So here's how it works: People bring in clothes they don't want anymore, then the  fashionable employees decide if the clothes are worth the keep. If they like the clothes then they will trade you cash or store credit. Then the clothes they bought go straight to the racks for others to buy. When your shopping there it can be hard to find things, you may have to shift through flannel T-shirts from the ‘90s or retro heels that could have been your grandma’s. But if you look hard you will find some really great buys, like rainbow Adidas for 20$ or a Urban Outfitter's dress for 15$

Check out what steals others have found!

Haley found her cute boots at buffalo!

THE SPACE TOUR

As promised, here is the review of the Star Kid Space Tour in Austin on November 12. Walking up to Antones on West 5th street with some friends and our home made t-shirts, packed full of all the best quotes from the Very Potter Musical and Sequel, i could not believe how many people were already in line half an hour before the doors opened and a full hour before the show was scheduled to start. The line must have stretched a block or two (possible exaggeration, I cannot remember exactly how long it was) and as soon as we got in line more and more people just kept coming and lining up behind us. After that, the anticipation just kept growing and growing while the line slowly shuffled forwards. Exited fans in the crowd even started singing some of the songs from Star Kids productions.
Enough about my experience in line….As for the actual show, it was FANTASTIC.  The delayed start was quickly forgotten when Charlene Kaye played as the opening act and was totally awesome. Followed by the rest of the Star Kid crew, the show just got better and better as it  went on. Also, the performance from Jim and the Povolos was great. Overall I have nothing but amazing things to say about this tour, definitely something to look into next time they come to Austin

Some of my favorite quotes from my shirt.
"I'm holding out for a ten, because I'm worth it"
-Lauren Lopez as Draco Malfoy
"You might think killing people would make them like you...
but it doesn't. It just makes them dead."
-Joe Walker as ...you know who :)

Quick, Cheap, Silly, but EFFECTIVE

How to keep your pants from ever coming unzipped:
-Soph
(a great place to get key rings is at keyring.com
1.
begin with an average pair of jeans or pants with a zipper and button.

2.
Get an empty key ring (about the size of a coin)
3.
To get started, attach the key ring through the tip of the zipper

4.
Next, simply pull the zipper up as you normally would, then
put the key ring over the button

5.
Finally, just do up the button with the key still behind the button
on the inside.

Whats the Fashion in Sagging?

What is the fashion world coming to? It’s like people refuse to use belts! You can find belts under 10 dollars at almost any retail store. If you really need help Forever21has a great supply of cheap belts that are really cute.
Sagging also is a danger to the perpetrator and people around them. What if you were to trip over your pants? Not only would you rip them but you would look like a fool falling on your face! If you are a sagger yourself, don't take this personally, but take it as a great piece of advice. :)

“Why would anyone sagg?!” exclaimed Haley “this is so gross” Haley graciously posed for my picture, but started to wonder what would cause someone to sag like this.

Lady Gaga's Tribute to Bill Clinton

On August 19th, Bill Clinton received the biggest surprise party any former president has ever gotten on his birthday: Lady Gaga. After rolling out in a white tree house, she serenaded our late president with her top hits, including "Born This Way", "Edge of Glory", and "Bill Romance". With altered words to reflect the president's accomplishments, the concert was certainly a "Marilyn Moment".
Though you rarely hear her real voice on her albums, Lady Gaga actually can sing. She has a great voice, backed by her piano. Though a bit strange, Lady Gaga has a lot of talent. Her dancing alone is amazing, not to mention she's singing all the while! The choreography was great, as well as the costumes. Over all, it was a great show. Happy Birthday Mr. President!
